Privacy

In short, there are no advertising trackers. Cloudflare, the company that hosts this site, sets one security cookie on your first visit, and a second cookie is set only if you sign in. The reading section, the kana charts, Starter and Lesson 1 of every level work without an account. From Lesson 2 on the course needs a free account, because it saves a record of the questions you get wrong.

Who runs this site

Daily Dokkai is an independent project. You can reach the people who run it through the Contact page, which is also where to send any question or request about your data.

Your progress stays on your device

Your level, the words you select, quiz results and written answers are stored in your browser’s local storage, on your device only. Clearing your browser data erases them. If you sign in, they are also saved to your account, so they are safe and you can use them on another device.

If you sign in

You need to sign in to use Lesson 2 and later, and anywhere else it is optional. Signing in lets your progress follow you between your phone and your computer. When you sign in:

• You can sign in with Google, or with an email address and a password.
• With Google: we ask Google to confirm who you are. We receive your Google account ID, your email address and your name, and store those to recognize you next time. We never receive your Google password, and we ask for nothing else from your Google account.
• With an email address and password: we store your email address and a salted, one-way hash of your password. The password itself is never stored and cannot be read back by anyone, including us. If we email you a code — to confirm your address or to reset a forgotten password — your address and that message pass through the email delivery service that sends it. We send no other email.
• To slow down password guessing and automated sign-ups, sign-in attempts, new accounts, password resets and messages sent through the feedback box are counted against the IP address they came from, and sign-in attempts also against the email address. Those counts are erased within 24 hours.
• A session cookie is set — a random token, so the site knows it is still you. It is not used for advertising or tracking. It is removed when you sign out, and it stops working after 60 days, when you sign in again.
• The same study progress described above is copied to our server so it can be sent to your other devices. It is stored for you alone and is never sold, shared or published.
• The course keeps a record of which questions you have answered and which you got wrong, so it can bring them back for review. That record is kept in your browser and, when you are signed in, in your account too. It is used for nothing else.
• Google’s sign-in code is loaded from Google only at the moment you open the sign-in panel. If you never sign in, your browser never requests it.

If you send feedback or contact us

Every page has a Send feedback box while the site is in beta, and the Contact page has a form; both are stored the same way. What you write is stored with the address of the page you sent it from, the size of your screen and your browser type, so a reported problem can be found and fixed. If you are signed in, it is stored with your account; if not, it is anonymous unless you choose to add an email address for a reply. It is read by the people building the site and used for nothing else. Deleting your account also deletes the feedback you sent while signed in.

What each piece of data is used for

• Your email address is used to sign you in, to send the codes that confirm your address or reset your password, and to answer you if you write to us. We send no newsletters or advertising email.
• Your name, if you gave one or signed in with Google, is shown in your account menu.
• Your Google account ID is used to recognize you when you sign in with Google.
• The hash of your password is used to check your password when you sign in.
• Your study progress, including the questions you missed, is used to bring those questions back for review and to keep your devices in step.
• The session cookie keeps you signed in.
• IP addresses are used only to slow down password guessing and automated abuse, as described above.
• Your membership, once memberships start: whether it is active, canceled or ended, its renewal and end dates, the email address used at checkout, Lemon Squeezy's reference numbers for it, and the amount, currency and status of each payment. It is used to decide which lessons open for you and to show your membership in your account.
• Feedback and contact messages are used to find and fix what you report, and to reply if you left an address.
• Visit counts tell us how many visits arrive each day through each of our short links (for example dailydokkai.com/ig). A count holds no cookie, no IP address and nothing else about you.

We never sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to build a profile of you.

How long we keep it

• Sign-in sessions: 60 days, or until you sign out.
• IP addresses counted for sign-in, sign-up, password resets and the feedback box: at most 24 hours.
• Feedback and contact messages: up to one year, then deleted. Messages you sent while signed in are also deleted when you delete your account.
• Your account and your study progress: until you delete your account.
• Your membership and payment records: until you delete your account. Lemon Squeezy keeps its own billing records for as long as tax law requires.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, to get a copy of it as a file, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. To delete your account and everything stored with it, follow the steps below; it takes a minute and happens at once. For anything else, write to us through the Contact page while signed in, or give the email address on your account, and say what you would like. We will answer within 30 days.

If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to complain to your national data-protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).

Deleting your account

On the Reading page, open the Account menu at the top right, choose Account & saved data, then Delete my saved data. That erases your account and everything stored for it on the server immediately and permanently. The copy on your own device is left alone, so nothing you have learned is lost. If you have a membership, deleting your account cancels it first, so you are not charged again.

What is free, and what will be paid

Daily Dokkai is free while it is in beta, and there is no card to enter. A paid membership is coming for the lessons after Lesson 1 of each level. Starter, Lesson 1 of every level, the daily reading and Kana & numbers will stay free, and anyone with an account will be told before anything changes.

The services we use

• Cloudflare hosts the site and the database where accounts, progress and feedback are kept. Like every web host, its servers receive standard request information (such as your IP address and browser type) so they can deliver the pages and keep them secure.
• Cloudflare's bot check runs on every visit to block automated abuse, such as scripts that try to guess passwords. On your first visit it sets one cookie, cf_clearance, which tells Cloudflare that your browser has passed the check so it is not checked again on every page. It lasts up to a year and is not used for advertising.
• Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views and measures how fast pages load, so we can see which pages are used and which are slow. It sets no cookie, stores nothing on your device and does not build a profile of you.
• Resend delivers the emails we send you, such as sign-in codes and password resets. It receives your email address and the message.
• Google confirms who you are if you choose to sign in with Google. Its sign-in code is loaded only when you open the sign-in panel.
• Microsoft Azure makes the computer-generated voices in the listening audio. The audio is made in advance, so Azure receives nothing about you.
• Lemon Squeezy will sell the membership once memberships start. It is the merchant of record: it runs the checkout, takes the payment, handles sales tax and VAT, and keeps the billing records, under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your card number. It receives the email address on your account, which is filled in for you at checkout, and a reference number that ties the membership to your Daily Dokkai account.

The typefaces are served from this site itself, so loading a page sends nothing to Google.

Age

You must be 13 or older to create an account.

Changes

Accounts and cloud saving were added on September 20, 2026, signing in with an email address and password on September 21, 2026, and the feedback box on October 4, 2026. This page was updated before each of them went live, and any future change to what we store about you will be described here first. In October 2026 this page added what each piece of data is used for, how long it is kept, your rights and the services we use, and the fonts moved from Google to this site; Lemon Squeezy then replaced Stripe as the payment service planned for memberships. On October 12, 2026 this page added Cloudflare's security cookie and its page-view statistics, which were already running, and the paragraph on what is free and what will be paid.
