Yesterday, and who with

〜ました/〜ませんでした

In this lesson, you will learn to say what you did and didn't do, where an action happens, who you did it with, when something starts and ends, and how to invite someone along.

By the end you will be able to say

I went to the library yesterday.
I studied together with a friend.
I study at the library.
I go to school from Monday to Friday.
Won't you watch a movie with me on Sunday?

The grammar in this lesson

  1. 〜ました/〜ませんでした — the past of ます — What you did, and what you didn't do.
  2. で — where an action happens — Where you study, eat, or buy something — different from に.
  3. と/いっしょに — with someone — と marks the company; いっしょに says 'together'.
  4. から〜まで — from a start to an end — From Monday to Friday — marking where something starts and ends.
  5. 〜ませんか/〜ましょう — inviting, and 'let's' — Ask someone along, and answer with a suggestion of your own.
