Plans

〜(よ)う ・ 〜(よ)うと 思う ・ 〜予定です ・ 〜ことに する/〜ことに なる

In this lesson, you will learn to say 'let's' and 'shall we?' the casual way, to say what you are thinking of doing, to talk about what is on the schedule, and to say what you have decided and what has been decided. The cooking club plans its booth for the 学園祭, the university's autumn festival.

By the end you will be able to say

Let's make curry at the school festival.
I'm thinking of getting up early tomorrow.
We're scheduled to meet at seven on the morning of the 3rd.
I've decided to work at the café's booth with Sakura.
It's been decided that the café will have a booth at the festival too.

The grammar in this lesson

  1. Let's: the volitional 〜(よ)う — The volitional form (作ろう, 食べよう, しよう) is the casual 'let's'; add か for 'shall we?'
  2. I'm thinking of: 〜(よ)うと 思う — Volitional + と 思います says what you are thinking of doing.
  3. On the schedule: 〜予定です — A plain verb, or a noun + の, before 予定です says something is planned or scheduled.
  4. Decided: 〜ことに する/〜ことに なる — Plain verb + ことに します says you decide something; + ことに なります says it has been decided.
