The grammar in this lesson

  1. 〜を もとに/〜に 基づいて — based on — 〜を もとに names the material something is built from; 〜に 基づいて names the evidence or the rules it strictly follows.
  2. 〜と 考えられる — it is thought that; it can be concluded that — A plain form + と 考えられる states a careful, objective conclusion, the way a report or an article does.
  3. 恐らく — probably; very likely — 恐らく says the speaker is fairly sure, and usually ends with だろう or でしょう.
  4. 〜恐れが ある — there is a danger that (something bad will happen) — A dictionary form, or a noun + の, + 恐れが ある warns that something bad may happen.
